Rates for writing
are generally $35 per hour, and also applies to any research
such as interviews, Internet searches, transcribing tapes,
conference calls, e-mails, etc. Once a project proposal is
accepted, a deposit of $50 is required along with the necessary
materials.
Graphic design project rates start at $30 per hour and as with writing, the rate applies to any outside research, taking of photographs, illustration, etc. As with writing projects, a $50 deposit is required.
Web design rates are done one of two ways - either hourly at $40 per hour or a set price for the design of an entire site. Because of the complexity with web design, it's strongly recommended that businesses have a basic concept in mind including logo ideas, color scheme, sections of the proposed web site, photographs, copy, etc. For web design projects, the client will be provided with storyboards of three possible design ideas for consideration before construction of the site begins.
Instructions
With any project
whether it be a magazine or newspaper article, brochure, press
release, or web site development, the following information
is requested in writing as a proposal before a project is
accepted:
- Project tasks
required (interviewing, researching, writing, revising, developing storyboards).
- Who is your
target audience?
- What is the
goal of the piece or web site?
- What is the tone of the piece - formal, casual, humorous, informative, persuasive, etc.?
- What are the
length requirements?
- What is your
deadline?
- What types
of materials will you provide?
- An estimate
of how many hours the project will require.
- Your project
budget.
- How many times
it is estimated the project will undergo revisions? For
example, larger corporations often require that materials
be reviewed and approved by managers, vice presidents, etc.
Depending on the levels of command within a company, revision
may occur several times before a document is ready for printing or a web site is ready to go live.
NOTE:
Please be sure and include the revision phase in
both your project timeline and budget.
File
Formats
Please
provide editorial projects in Microsoft Word for Windows either
on disk or as an e-mail attachment. Revising with Microsoft
Word offers the "track changes" feature so a client
can see where changes occur, review them (often done in a
differing color), and accept them.

Women
Write does not offer editorial services such as copyediting
of already completed material, however; we have contacts that
provide excellent copyediting and proofreading.
References
It’s
only good business to request references before beginning
a working relationship. Besides the pieces highlighted in
the Writing Portfolio, we can also provide the names of former
and current clients you may contact. At the completion of
a project, Women Write will ask you to complete a survey regarding
your satisfaction with the completed project.
